Wallis Pond in Ambleston restored to boost biodiversity
2nd of January, 2025
An old millpond in Ambleston has been successfully restored, thanks to funding from Nestlé Waters UK. The project, a collaborative effort involving Pembrokeshire County Council, Ambleston Community Council, Heavyside Landscapes, and Natural Resources Wales, aimed to improve water quality and enhance local biodiversity.
The restoration included re-digging and de-silting the pond, as well as replacing the old sluice gate. This will help the pond retain more water, reduce silt build-up, and prevent nutrients from traveling downstream, benefiting aquatic habitats and wildlife such as eels, otters, and damselflies.
Councillor Rhys Sinnett praised the project, highlighting its long-term benefits for the environment and community.
Ambleston Community Council expressed gratitude to all partners involved in making this project a success.
